🇮🇱: Worst country in the world bar none; gleefully carrying out a brutal genocide 90% funded by US tax dollars after being the victims of one less than a century ago. THE reason for a century of war in the Middle East.

🇺🇸: too many crimes to list (including being under complete control of the AIPAC).

🇬🇧: genocide, repatriating Holocaust victims to Palestine otherwise known as the Nakba. Just as guilty of war crimes and crimes against humanity as the US since the end of WWII.

    🇦🇺: widespread corruption/genocide support

🇩🇪: supporting 🇮🇱 after being the perpetrators of their own genocide.

🇸🇦: dictatorship/openly chop journalists into pieces/dictator owns most politicians in oil rich nations

🇶🇦: dictatorship/ dystopian ultra-rich hellscape in the middle of the desert where slavery is the norm

🇹🇷: dictatorship/Armenian genocide then subsequent denial

    🇷🇺: dictatorship

    🇰🇾: tax haven

    🇵🇦: tax haven

Probably Muricans offended at the healthy dose of reality.

I just had to start this thread after seeing the other one. Honestly, I purposely put it right next to the other one on world because I felt like they needed to hear it more than the less brainwashed .ml version of asklemmy. It’s very telling to see how many people actively, aggressively insist on burying their heads in the sand on lemmy.world. I’d be shocked if this post doesn’t eventually get taken down.

Idk… Placing Israel as worse than Afghanistan, North Korea, Saudi Arabia especially when considering Yemen seems questionable.

No China considering Tiananmen, Tibet, Uyghurs, sweatshops, brutal suppression of citizens? Also suss.

You’re clearly a citizen of the most propagandized population in the world, the US.

Thank you for standing up and demonstrating exactly how propagandized American citizens are. It’s as if you live on a different planet with a couple of these.

          • Afghanistan is a US puppet-government since Hamid Karzai was installed (or as lennybird might say “democratically elected”). 😹

          • North Korea is an admittedly awful dictator-run country that I might have mentioned but decided not to because their situation is a direct result of US/NATO meddling and embargoes. I’ve been critical of them in the past but someone put it this way to me: Starve a nation and see how desperate they get. They certainly aren’t good but I’d call them victims of meddling by the rest of the world than pointing my finger at them as EVIL.

          • China is 50-50 for me. I’m anti-authoritarian. So, I dislike that nation pretty strongly. I will say this though that they have over the great satan the US: No one is homeless, no one struggles to pay for medical expenses, no one goes hungry, they’re doing something about the environment, the beat the shit out of the US for trains, etc, etc. The Uyghurs thing is something that has been alleged but not sufficiently proven. I’ve only heard it from the same people that said “Iraq has weapons of mass destruction” so you’ll have to provide better evidence than citing some unfounded CIA hit-piece. I’d be happy to correct myself though if you can provide some evidence of that. I’m no hexbear China supporter but they’re far from the most evil country, IMO.

Be honest, Lennybird. Did you not recognize the Saudi flag? They were on my list. I know Americans don’t study geography so I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt. Weirdly, I even mentioned specifically that they chopped up Jamal Khashoggi and you STILL didn’t make the connection. You have an excuse though. America has a terrible school system so you can’t be blamed for being ignorant. Alabama right?

The other most richly comical thing about pompous Americans is that they love to pretend that some foreign nation would brother operating hundreds of LEMMY accounts. It’s usually Russia or China, though. So congrats on being a tad more creative as a gullible sheep terminally infected with CIA brain-worms.

    None.

Countries don’t have a unique identity I could like or dislike as a whole.

They can vary widely from region to region, city to city, block to block, street to street… heck even person to person. I may not like some people, or at worst some region because of this or that reason but that is all.

              Exactly.

And if you read the headline, OP asked about countries, not the people in/from them.

I’m not disagreeing with either of you. Just pointing out you ain’t talking about what everyone else is talking about. Like if someone asked what the best Marvel movie was, and you said making a coat out of 101 dalmatians puppies wasn’t ethical.

Someone that asks what you’re talking about wouldn’t be advocating for puppy coats, they’re wondering why you thought that was the subject of discussion.

Like you could try to argue Disney owns them both so it’s relevant, but it’s still a jump that you made on your own.

I commented this earlier: I have no particular dislike for any country. I just don’t like some people I know personally or whose actions are known to me.

And I mean just that. I don’t see how it would be helpful to anyone to hate on people you actually know nothing about. This simple concept of nations might be alright at the Olympics and such but it is not when it comes to judging a whole nation, meaning hundreds of thousands if not millons of people.

I would call it a (federal) government, not a country.
        How would you call it?

I more than disagree with what our government is doing in my country (and how they are doing it), do you think I should dislike all the people living in it, and all the places of that country because of me disliking a bunch of politicians and their politics? I don’t.

Like, you’re taking it as “people from a country” and trying to be high and mighty about it. When literally no one else is having that conversation…

Like, do you really think it’s healthy to only answer what people are expecting?

and trying to be high and mighty about it.

In our days and age of constant hastily proclaimed condemnations, I can appreciate you taking the time to better know me before expressing your informed opinion on my person.

I’ve visited a scant handful of countries. And you want me to pick a least favorite? Let’s start by enumerating my options: US, Canada, Thailand, Mexico, Bahamas, Cayman Islands, Jamaica, Laos.

I guess I’ll have to say Jamaica because they were pushy as hell with tourists, but not in a scary way. I don’t have anything bad to say about my experiences in any of the rest. Canada gets too cold in the winter, but not while I was there. I could occasionally hear gunfire in the distance from the resort in Mexico, but it was never worrisome—I can sometimes hear a gun range from my house. That’s it. I’m pretty easy to please, I guess.

Not that I’m not famous for saying it already (and I should clarify I hold these sentiments for national governments and the cultures, not civilian individuals), but the British ranks on top for their overreach, if not also Japan and Russia for the weight their cultures put on people.

My point is: Rule 1 is vaguely-phrased and has been repeatedly cited as justification for censorship. ESPECIALLY here on Lemmy.world.

          “Be nice”.

Anyone dishing out any inconvenient truths about the world can be accused of not “being nice”. It’s the perfect catch-all for censorship happy moderation.

It might as well say, “don’t say anything that might be considered controversial by the hivemind”

Perhaps. I don’t think I’ve stepped out of line but text can be read in so many different tones.

You ever get into a debate where the other side won’t even meet you in the middle at some source of ground truth and the reality that you have to make them aware of is impossible for them to perceive in a way that doesn’t sound threatening to their entire worldview? It happens all the time. That’s not being a dick. That’s the reality of these types of discussions. They are uncomfortable but essential for a healthy democracy.

I wasn’t directing it at you specifically, just a general commentary about the pseudo-anonymity that many internet commenters feel they have and the resulting attitudes and responses because of that. The core reason for vague generalized rules like Rule 1 is because people will be dicks, just because they can. And that manifests in hundreds of different ways that are hard to account for in a general community rule structure beyond something simple like, don’t be a dick.

No problem! Thanks for the heads up even though it wasn’t true. :)

My least favourites are in no particular order; Argentina, Australia, Chile, France, New Zealand, Norway, and the United Kingdom. Reasoning is that they have territorial claims in Antartica.

Antartica belongs to the inhabiting wildlife, no one has the right to claim a territory there.
