You know, this is the libertarian argument for drugs and hookers for me. This stuff is already legal in the US, but only if you’re rich enough. I just want it to be legal for everyone regardless of whether they’re billionaires.

Cannabis is the stupidest example imo, it’s criminalisation causes more harm than good, it’s the kingpins and people profiting off of prisoners, pushing and advocating for continued criminalisation.

Private prisons are one of the worse outcomes of austerity, it encourages laws like this just to send as many poor people to prison as possible just so they can line their pockets, the most braindead one being the conjoined enterprise laws in the UK, which is a perfect case study as to why austerity which is musks entire strategy for economic prosperity, is a grift which is only ever capable of working for your government if there’s a scapegoat which you can blame your economic strategy failing on.

The only real issue I have with smoking weed is the lung cancer bit, but cigs apparently are perfectly fine 🤷‍♂️

YES! However, EVERYTHING is legal in the US, if you’re rich enough or have some sort of connection to the rich - see Jan 6 folks.

And yet, when is Elon’s court date?

If a law isn’t enforced, then it functionally doesn’t exist. If the law only exists for some of the population, then it’s a tool of oppression.

Well, not entirely. We can get into a lot more good reasons why drug laws and prostitution laws are ass, but, I mean, yeah. Being rich doesn’t make you above the law. If we’re unwilling to enforce it on the wealthy, we shouldn’t enforce it on the poor.

I’m not a libertarian and it shows. You do yourself as libertarians do. Laws should be applied equally to rich and poor. Just because a rich person can do it doesn’t mean we stop enforcing laws. Think of all the absolute shit things that Trump did and now say yes everyone can do them. That what you are arguing for.

It doesn’t make things better. It makes them worse .

If you want sensible drug laws fight for those . Don’t argue that as long as a rich person can get away with it everyone should. That a libertarian wonderland and I really don’t want to live there. But then again more people agree with you in the USA than don’t.

Could have been easy enough to say that It doesn’t matter if Elon did it. No one should ever get in trouble for a drug that should be rescheduled to be like cigarettes or pot.

Then your argument could have been on any of the other factors. The only idea put forth was that since a rich people can get away with avoiding a law there shouldn’t be a law. That is a consistent libertarian view. It hooks people because it sounds fair while increasing inequality and gives the rich and ability to push the window farther and father right. That libertarian argument is popular with fascists and I call that out.

            Which do you prefer

            • All laws apply to everyone
            • All laws apply to poor people
            • Some laws apply to rich people
            • Some laws apply to everyone

Without liberty and justice for all, there can be no one nation indivisible. Calexit!
