I swear sometimes I feel like I’m reading a bad newspaper comment section, like everyone is a poorly trained AI that just spouts default politically-oriented replies. The New York Times comment section for any given topic (not just current events, also culture etc) is way more interesting than most of it here.
Note this also applies to a LOT of reddit but there are some subreddits that are more interesting. A lot of them have their own circlejerk but at least when I first find them the “game” is new so I’m eager to read what people have to say.
Where on Lemmy is the actually good or interesting discussion happening, please, I really want something better, I am eager to contribute too, it’s one of my resolutions for 2025.
Where on lemmy is there discussion about news, culture, and zeitgeist without people defaulting to boring and predictable political takes?

Sorry to say so but looking at you recent post history it doesn’t look like you’re exempt from talking ‘political takes’ yourself. Why complain about something it seems you’re also actively contributing to?
(If you’re wondering, I seldom have the ‘opportunity’ to talk politics on Lemmy because 1) I don’t browse the communities where that kind of content thrives and 2) I refuse to waste any more of my time in any discussion the moment it starts shifting toward politics because I consider online ‘political discussions’ are more often than not akin to having a tantrum, when it’s not pure hatred or unadulterated dumbfuckery, none of those helping in regard to politics nor offering any sound base to discussing it, or anything for that matter.) - Have you tried discussing with people in niche communities? I frequent a few such niches and there people don’t really speak politics. Why would they? It’s not the what the community is supposed to be about. Obviously, doing so and being on Lemmy it also means you won’t have as many discussions or as many participants as you might have in broader communities but you can’t have it both, at least not for now, not for as long as there will be so few Lemmy users.

Lemmy is very small, theres only like the same 1000 users that are always in the discussion. Its naturally gonna become an echo chamber and its not exactly gonna represent what the general population think.
What exactly are you expecting? Anything relating to politics will naturally have political responses.
Like I said, takes that at least aren’t entirely predictable. If you’ve never been in such a discussion forum you should join one, it is refreshing.
Do you have an example? either way - what is a “predictable” take vs unpredictable?
Such as “we should respect human life” is a “predictable” reply?
What forums are you suggesting?
Not the op, but an obvious example is that in any post covering current events, there are always half a dozen comments complaining about “late stage capitalism” or denouncing the elites. Those comments don’t really add anything to the discussion and kinda just reduce a thread to a boring whinge-fest.
When you talk to the general public, then there will be some stupid people.
Inevitably. Unavoidably. Everywhere. And if you think about it, you never can be sure that you aren’t one of them yourself :)
The problem with having a good discussion on Lemmy is that its a low-trust environment, if you want interesting geopolitics stuff Caspian report is good for content ( https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCwnKziETDbHJtx78nIkfYug ). Not sure about anything on Lemmy because talking about politics is both annoying no faith arguments or circle jerk/doom article posting, needless to say, I have politics and world events either blocked or not on my homepage.

Have you tried having a conversation with people locked up in a mental asylum?
[email protected] and its megathread (changes weekly) has discussion with generally communist/anarchist perspective, defederated from .world though.
If you’re defederated from .world then you don’t have to listen to dunces insist the earth is flat! Win win!
