This is the first time I’m hearing of Zorin OS. What’s so unique about it? It seems pretty standard based on the release features, and that upstream is just Ubuntu LTS. Does anyone use Zorin OS?
I would guess its selling point is that it’s easy for beginners to use and look a little like Windows. My friends dad recommended it to me and I tried it for some time but I never liked and probably never will like Ubuntu.
I put zorin lite on my girlfriend’s old ass laptop, works well if you just need stability and snappiness and won’t mess with much
I’ve messed around with it a little bit but have never really used it, but at least from the time I spent with it, their free version really seems to be just as you said, a pretty standard Linux distro.
The pro (paid) version seems like it’s meant to just be an install and forget kinda thing, just pick what style desktop you want, have a ton of extra stuff preinstalled, and have access to support. Seems like the target audience is people who want an OS that’s somewhat managed for them/curated.
Man, and I thought Linux Mint point releases’ changes were lacking. No new info on porting to wayland or what timeline they have on package rebasing, its hard to recommend ZorinOS to people nowadays without it being outclassed by Linux mint.
