I was raised in various evangelical protestant denominations of Christianity, went through a Neopagan period, and landed in atheist-leaning agnostic.
We bought a house with some farmland and moved in a few months ago. My farming ventures have been hit or miss (“learning how not to do it” as some might put it), but we had some fruit trees/bushes. We now have ume (plum) jam and are still into fresh blueberries and biwa (loquat). It’s really nice to be able to eat things from our own land when they are most fresh and delicious.

Like, if you want to have non-partisan oversight of the algorithm selection, great, but I’m not at all sold that partitioning up the election map requires anything beyond a simple, mechanical process.
Agreeing on the algo, its params, etc. is going to just be another never-ending fight. It now also requires teaching any oversight committee about all of this. Even if it were left to some “non-partisan” (I’ll believe it when I see it) engineer, each successive government would just replace the algo and/or engineer.
In my opinion, an algo should be legislated with its implementation forced, but I’m not holding my breath.

“Critical Thinking” was already taken, so I’ll go with my similar-but-different answer of critical evaluation of sources/information. When I was a kid, we were never to let anyone in when home alone, even to just use the phone. We were told never to believe anyone on the other side of that door that wasn’t family or emergency services (and even then to call the neighbors in the latter case). Today, so many of the same people who told me this are fooled by dis- and mis-information online or believe very poor sources. Sometimes, it does fall into the trap of “my sister/brother/pet albatros shared it so it must be true!” of thinking the source is already verifies. We all should get better at this.
