Every time I read news about Palestine (on Reddit especially), all the comments are either filled with the most racist vitriol I’ve seen, or it’s about how Gen Z is being brainwashed by Tiktok to support terrorism. It’s fucking wild.

I really liked Paris 🥲 I did go during the end of October though, so that might’ve have been a factor. People still didn’t want to talk to me in French, but they weren’t rude about it.

My favourite place to visit in France was La Rochelle, I feel like I got most of the benefits of visiting Coastal France but without the Marseille/Toulon/Monaco crowds (yes I know, Monaco is not France).

I’m back home visiting Canada right now, and seeing this too. Children of immigrants/2nd gen immigrants using the same talking points as fascists about how there’s too many immigrants being let in, or not “the right kind”.

Astounding how they don’t understand the cognitive dissonance of that.

I don’t think many people would claim overall valuation has much of anything to do with the value labor brings to an organization.

Apologies, can you clarify what exactly you mean by this? Because when I say their labour is not being valued, I do extend that to the Wall Street orgs that are doing the evaluations. They look at the “product” on offer, not the people actually working and developing it.

Are you saying because stock prices aren’t steady, we can’t correlate that to salaries?

I said in a comment on mastodon that I don’t think the batch of newer employees hired at Nvidia are going to have anywhere near the same compensation as the current employees do, and this kind of helps support my suspicions…

Well, they technically will see SOME cents of this because I’m pretty sure Nvidia gives employees stocks too.

Yeah, what you say about Iraq makes sense, but I don’t remember mentions of extreme violence against specifically young protesters like we’re seeing with the university encampments. I was also very young at the time, so I was definitely being sheltered from a lot of it.

That’s why the comparisons to Vietnam sticks out more in my head, because that’s probably the only other time historically I have been taught that there has been pointed aggression toward the younger generation about anti-war protesting.

But my perception may also be skewed because it is my peer group that is being targeted. Quite a few of my friends may or will have police records because they were at pro-Palestine protests and were unlucky enough to get caught by the police, and we still don’t know how it’ll impact them in the future.

I assume you mean under Bush Sr? The only Gulf war googling got me was the one in 1991, and that’s a bit before my time. That’s really cool that you have footage of the protests, are they available anywhere to view at all?

It’s really fucking weird to see the disconnect between the powers that be and regular people regarding Israel/Gaza.

I can’t really think of anything in my lifetime that had the same disconnect. Was the invasion of Afghanistan/Iraq this protested? Vietnam maybe?
