Yeah but half of that is a few nerds inflating the numbers with 10 thinkpads each running different linux distros
The universe growing souls like flowers, or something
I don’t believe in a soul that’s separate from the body, or that lives on afterward. But the way that “inanimate” matter can spin up thoughts and feelings and a consistent personal experience that can last for decades… It’s almost fair to call that thing a soul. It’s fair to talk about nurturing your soul and growing a soul.
Where is the state power in the fediverse?
They seem more node.js-friendly than other hosts I’ve tried. I might have to take the plunge.
Except instead of Nazis (?!?!) it’s corporations.
Maybe I should figure out DO. I disregarded then because I didn’t understand their droplets or whatever they’re called.
I’m socially liberal and economically on the left (as in I like democracy, I accept capitalism, but I want a lot more socialist policies). Downtrodden people should be given assistance, but everyone else should be free to live out their power and ambition unless it gets in other people’s way. I’m against most right wing political and social positions. But I’m even more against defederation and mass blocking. I don’t want a safe space. There are too many things we need to process with conversation.
That’s a great price for a vps. What host do you use?
Right, but social media (and any social movement) needs to have some degree of blood-pumping excitement. Constructive criticism is super important, but so is passionate people yelling at each other. The important thing is that we’re emotionally mature enough to handle each other’s passion. If infighting leads to people crying “defederate now!” then that’s a problem. But “constructive” criticism can lead to the same fracturing.
Let’s just ride the waves and steer this thing somewhere cool and strong! And it’s fine if “infighting” is part of the engine that keeps the digital blood pumping.
I agree.
BUT some degree of infighting means we’re alive and engaged with the platform. I think it’s healthy infighting.
I’m in Canada and we just drink the tap water. Some northern and remote native communities have to boil their water and it’s considered an embarrassing failure of basic human rights.
I barely just started but it feels almost as natural as normal reddit.
Lemmy federates Reddit better than Mastodon federates Twitter. Mastodon is confusing. But on Lemmy I can clearly see the relationship between instances, and I can use it all as one big system.
I expect there are very few people running 7, and waaaay less running xp. I think most people have upgraded to 10 or 11 by now.
