I saw on the news last night that here in Philly, there were almost 70 arrests by city police of a group of union demonstrators doing an organized sit-in. When they were hauling one middle-aged black lady away, the news shoved a microphone in her face and asked if it was worth it. She just replied, “solidarity forever.” ✊🏻

Going through that experience is what made me eventually buy a solar generator when I had the money in the right spot. I’ve felt really unsafe until I managed to get one figured out. Jumped on a Black Friday deal *during the pandemic and got a DJI Power 1000 and two solar panel sets for $500.
I’ve given it a fair shake at this point, and just with the light in my enclosed back yard, I am collecting almost 400W/h, which is more than enough to run the fridge for a few days by cycling the power so it runs for only a few hours total per day.
I really really recommend folks explore solar these days. Battery storage technology has really, really improved since the early 2000s. Solar panels aren’t meaningfully any more efficient, but the real advantage these days is that panels are dirt nasty cheap if you are willing to wait on freight times. You can even buy a $30 panel rated at 6W and connect it to a USB power bank and run your vapes, Flipper Zero, etc on solar!

My MAGA / Q-ANON mom said she wanted to run for school board to prevent trans kids from using litter boxes. Mind you, her last kid (me) left that high school in 2006. I asked her what a school board director does, and she got mad at me because she didn’t know.

Idk. I have watched people discover Darknet markets for years now, and the most common line of thinking that I see whenever someone tries good cocaine for the first time is “I wish I could sustain this feeling for longer, and cheaper.” Everyone is always eventually disappointed by what cocaine can offer.
It honestly shocked me so much that I had to do some research before bed just to make sure that number was right. Seems like it was. But I also was there in Pittsburgh during the riots that happened during the 2009 G20 summit, and that also saw similar numbers of people arrested and charged.
No city has resources, especially right now, to find charges that stick on all those people, so they put everyone in front of a judge on a rapid fire basis, and that judge basically triages the ones with charges that would actually matter. I saw something like 80% of the cases get dropped entirely, though, many months later, which is still plenty of time to ruin a worker’s life.
