Mainly tooling and a few ill conceived React components that never really fit anywhere and are now polluting our new build process until we are able to rewrite them.
Yep. People make bad decisions frequently. The rewrite was a way of keeping the newer devs on the project (like me) from revolting.
I looked to contribute. But yea, no interest in learning PHP though.
I’m currently involved in a rewrite! One of very few in 20 years of dev work. We prototyped our front end in node/js and we’re rewriting in React. We’re largely keeping the express backend, though.
I was looking through that and was thinking it was just reporting on the server configuration, but nope, all .env values are right there and nicely formatted. Yeesh.
Since you have experience, can I ask how much you expect it to cost to run? I have a couple decades in IT, an AWS cert, a great domain name, and a bit of disposable income. I’m thinking of putting one up myself.
I’m just about to try and install Diablo IV. Hopefully the graphics aren’t too small.
I started web dev in 1999. It can be one of the most progressive branches of development. I’m using a completely different stack today than I was two years ago. Every day I use a whole suite of different tools and languages. It can be a lot of fun if you enjoy the whole process of learning new technologies.
