  • RDR2 has one of, if not my favorite, inventory systems. Your own ‘backpack’ that had a weight limit and could only carry smaller things. Big things you’d have to lug onto the back of your horse or find a cart. All of your equipped weapons are displayed on your person. If you want to swap weapons you have to run back to your horse and exchange weapons at your saddle bags

  • I’m just gonna come out and say it because I think people don’t realize and it may be specific to US - if kbeans sticks we will be called “kbeaners” by trolls until the end of time, as it includes a racial slur aimed at hispanic/latino people

Honestly I bet a fair amount of people will even unintentionally use it without realizing. And if we have the ability to choose, I’d rather our nickname not be something that invites people to easily combine it with a slur

  • Been here since just before the blackout and I’m not big on kbeans. First of all it sets us up to have a derogatory nickname, likely even unintentionally so. Secondly it has nothing to do with kbin other than vaguely resembling the word ‘bin’

I’ve been partial to kbinaut. No one will question where we’re from. Keeps kbin in the name. And a bit more on theme as the ‘fediverse’ kinda has a loose space vibe to it and with kbinaut resembling astronaut

  • Defederating from problematic instances that are promoting illegal activity that would attract the FBI is a bit different from “Defederate, massively”.

Intentionally or not you’re making it sound like if we don’t follow beehaw’s lead the FBI is going to be after ernest, who lives in a different continent and even has the project partially funded on a grant

  • I disagree. I really think closing ourselves off to a bunch of places goes against the spirit of the fediverse. I want to be getting content from a lot of places which I can then filter out and control myself, and I feel like kbin supports that mindset well. I understand why some would want to defederate and close themselves off, but I don’t want kbin.social turning into beehaw. If you’re looking for a more controlled instance, join them

These platforms are still pretty early in their infancy and I don’t think they were quite mature enough to take on this sudden influx of users (through no fault of anyone). There’s going to be some growing pains but we’ll get through it and this platform will get better from it

  • I don’t believe there’s a native way to do this unfortunately. Currently you can only search for other communities (magazines) specific to your kbin instance. As @ChrV noted there are ways to do this via 3rd party

However, once you find a community from another compatible instance you can search for it through kbin.social and subscribe to it. Like searching for “[email protected]” without quotes in the search bar will let you subscribe to the mildlyinfuriating community on lemmy.word and the content will show up under kbin.social/sub

  • Right, I wasn’t saying it shouldn’t have been a public post. Just that the public post shouldn’t have immediately jumped to accusations. FOSS or not, accusing someone of stealing code and intentionally trying to obfuscate its origin to pass it off as their own is a big deal for a developer. One that can destroy your reputation

A simple “I’ve noticed snippets in here of my work that falls under a license which is not attributed at all. Could you add the proper attributions or remove it from your project?” says the same thing and doesn’t jump to any accusations that you have no idea if are true or not

  • Honestly that’s my only issue with this. Ernest was totally rightfully called out for this, as he should have been. But Emma’s knee jerk reaction is just a real bad look. Don’t make any attempt to reach out and figure out why it’s in there. Immediately make a public post accusing him of stealing code, trying to hide that he stole it, and claim it as his own…on a FOSS project no less…

    Surely there’s a step or 2 before that point…
