  • Here’s the problem: we’re watching the country errode in incredible time, the far right has sunk it’s claws into the government and it seemingly has no way to actually prevent it’s damage. All of the checks and balances seem to mean nothing as actual laws that people relied on are being repealed every month. And this might not be the worst of it, if Trump gets elected with a Senate majority, everything will probably flip seemingly overnight.

All we can do is vote and call representatives to tell them to support us. You could probably protest too but be careful out there. If you’re someone that might be targeted by an auth right regime, you might want to get your passport ready.

  • I’d agree with you, except that we’re in the dark timeline where the DNC has burned us hard by making dumb electoral decisions. We’re basically given another chance at 2016 where we have a democratic shoehorn vs a narcissistic authoritarian. I’m actually getting to the point where I regret not voting for Hilary because of how much of a shit show those years were.

So, yes, I’d love to vote for someone else, preferably like Bernie, but it’s far too late to recampaign. Especially since it’s less than 5 months prior to actual elections. Given what was accomplished these past 4 years, I’d actually be okay with Biden if he would meaningfully do something to help Palestine.

Have you considered using Bitwarden Premium? It has TOTP support and is $10/year currently.

Also, regardless of how your hosting your data, it’s probably good to keep a secured backup of your vault or two just in case something unexpected happens.

  • Fair points. I’d say it depends on what we’re focusing on.

Maybe a good compromise would be to have the account that sent the message generate the preview. At least that way you’d maintain E2EE and save the webserver some unnecessary demand.

I can also see how this could be less reliable (because we’re now relying on a client with all sorts of variables) and less safe (malicious sender could mask malicious links with benign previews) than the server method but it all depends on which you prefer more.

After thinking about it in this situation, previews are just a nightmare to deal with privately and I’d probably just want to turn them off.
