What a treat!
What a treat!
We had a beach cabin that we would go to for two or three weeks during summer. There was no electricity but we had the best time spending time there.
I remember we would go swimming in the sea under the blistering sun, white hot sand that we had to run on as fast as we could to sit on the porch where my dad had assembled “the porch table” that it was nothing more than the wooden kitchen door that doubled as furniture because that is all we had. Then he would place a big majolica bowl filled with an expertly sliced cooled watermelon…oh man I am tearing up here: The sweet flavor of the ripe cool fruit against our parched salty tongues felt like heaven. The smell of sea and fruit and salt and sand.
Beautiful memories. I miss my dad so much.
That image of the contrast between the blizzard and the twinkling lights is beautiful OP.
Lol I am right there with you. In my teenage years I dressed all black, tons of black eyeliner, etc. And scoffed at anything pastel or pink. Now? Well now I have purple hair, rainbow shoes, colorful pants and whatever ticks my fancy. When my brother cuestioned me I told him that since I wore all black for a long time (still do from time to time) I loved colorful outfits now and he was like “Well, you know you don’t have to make up for it, right?” Oh ffs just leave me alone. No one cares and it makes me happy.
I just had my first serious art show. Not solo, but still.
So sorry your mom behaved like that. Mine would say “Oh you got birthday money from grandpa? Here, I’ll save it for you” and of course when I wanted it back, she would get bent out of shape yelling that she had given me life and she wasn’t expecting anything in return So why should I. Awful all around.
I never thought about this topic like this. FWIW I’ve done both. Always got financial help (Dad payed for my car, stuff that was not covered by scholarships, vacation, extra curricular classes or interests, etc.) and then when he lost his job I helped financially for a bit while he got up on his feet again. I miss him everyday ❤️
Last week my kid’s mare got spooked by a plastic bag while said kid was riding her. They never flinched and everything was under control in a few seconds but you bet I was unable to breath while watching from afar.
Oh I’ve been there too! Read about it while planning my pregnancy. It made me feel so paranoic that I got the test done twice just in case. I never got sick with it, but paranoia was a removed.
Since then I have gotten mental health help to deal with anxiety etc.
Elfen Lied
I wish the person who laid down the stone paths you just described could read what you so beautifully wrote about their special place.
She was selected and placed there as a mere puppet of current president amlo. México is indeed a narco governement but people who don’t actuallly experience it first hand living it every day think that this facade is true. She was married to a guy who was investigated for embezzlent but got off the hook because of political contacts. Her father was a chemist who owned a solvent factory (he has passed away and she inherited the business) with very sketchy practices regarding toxic waste management. Factory is still hers and it still operating under the same principles.
You sure are a pb&jelly connoiseur! I like your comments about the different kinds of jellies, jam, etc. I have never tried prickly pear but it sounds delicious. My personal favorite is passion fruit jam but I also like red currant jelly.
I have the feeling you were born and raised in the US and have never experienced life outside your own town/ city and just spew your opinion about places and situations you know absolutely nothing about. So let me enlighten your narrow anglo vision a bit:
Have you ever lived through something like what is described in the article? Have you ever experienced what a narcoestado entails? Have you ever been in a protest along searching mothers outside Palacio Nacional because ten thousand people disappeared in your country due to organized crime for this fool to keep having breakfast saying “they only want to destabilize my regime” and not even acknowledge your presence? Have you ever been blackmailed and had to pay organized crime to keep your business open for this president to say “abrazos, no balazos” ( hugs, not bullets)? Has anyone from your family been kidnapped for ransom money? If so, did you get help from governement agencies? With all of the above, how would you feel about your president saying the things in the article? I have experienced all of the above scenarios so kindly, stfu.
Thanks for sharing your recipe, they sound delicious and just perfect for an upcoming camping trip.
He is a demagogue through and through, all his term has been a joke and he has been fluffed up by his minions telling him what a wonderful man he is. Barf!
Could you share your recipe for oat balls, please? I am looking for a high protein snack to switch things up a little bit. TIA
Mix tapes all the way! Sometimes even recording straight from radio shows praying the host wouldn’t speak during my recording.
The only album I bought in an original cassette was “August and everything after” by the Counting Crows. I played that tape every single morning going to school for like a year.
Enjoy solitude for a bit while SO and kid went camping for the weekend. Might try crocheting something later but right now just chilling with my dogs.
