Tangential rant: It’s disgusting how pet supply/vet/insurance companies exploit your love for your pet to gouge you for as much money as possible. Pet food costs more than human food a lot of the time where I live while being made of the cheapest factory floor scraps that they were otherwise going to throw in a dumpster, while they opine about how wholesome their ingredients are and how even you could eat it if you wanted to (which should be the fucking norm for food, humans are also animals and if it’s not safe for us to eat it’s not safe to eat period). Vets have been shown by investigative journalists to routinely order completely unnecessary expensive procedures (that are also extremely stressful for your pet so you’re not doing them any favours) and all but accuse for not loving your pet enough you when you can’t afford it. Pet insurance has insane deductibles/copays and all but the very most expensive tiers do not cover preventative care, checkups, or even vaccines so they’re basically useless for 90% of the vet visits you’ll actually go to and are really only for emergencies/freak accidents (and even then they’ll probably try to deny you coverage like human insurance does). Don’t even get me fucking started on small pets/fish and how inhumane pet stores that sell them are, but just know that they grossly under-report the needs of those pets because they don’t want you to have all the knowledge/resources you need to care for them and would prefer they died in a week so you’d come back and buy another one, you’ll spend less money if the pet is healthy and long lived.

That should only shred the top level files in the root directory though. Since shred doesn’t do it recursively and doesn’t know what to do with subdirectories.

Do any distros store system critical files at the root directory? It’s all subdirectories on mine. I guess if you were storing important data files in the root directory they would get shredded but that’s really bad practice anyway and I doubt it’s super common.
