  • Gardening on Reddit has 7.8m subs, that’s more than the whole Fediverse with all the bots.

Another issue is the quality of people. For example, I’m into kitchen knives. Dr. Larrin posts on Reddit about steels and related metallurgy. Does he post on Lemmy? No. Stroppy Stuff posts on Reddit about strops and sharpening. Does he post on Lemmy? No.

I’m also into mountain biking. Reddit is full of engineers, brand representatives and athletes, none of them is on Lemmy.

No one worth their salt gives a shit about Lemmy, that’s the hard truth. If you want to get quality hobby content - you go to Reddit.

Lemmy is for 15yo kids posting memes and US politics for those who got banned on Reddit. And for some devs to satiate their curiosity.

There are two ways of looking at it.

    1. The time machine is using itself as a point of reference to comply with general relativity. The only way to time travel is to move forward in time. The way to move through time would be to move a lot faster than the Earth, so that every minute for you inside the time machine would equal to many years for earthlings. And if you’re moving that fast you’ll fly away from Earth.
    2. The time machine somehow has a knowledge of the whole universe, this way a Newtonian model applies and an absolute point of reference exists. That allows unrestricted travel both forwards and backwards in time, but that also means that the Earth will inevitably move from under the machine to follow its path across the universe.

No matter how you twist it you’ll end up all alone in space. You need a machine which can move through both time and space at the same time.

  • Nothing. Except that they don’t give a shit. Fedi population is tiny and irrelevant.

Let me put it into perspective. Currently Fediverse as a whole has around 50k daily active users and 1.3m monthly active users split between multiple services with Mastodon being the most active. These are the stats for something that exists for over a decade.

I used to work in a company making some social media products. When we launched our main product we had 1m daily active users within a month and I don’t remember how many monthly users (that was over 10 years ago). And it just grew from there.

Facebook Threads has 100m daily active users now. The whole Fediverse is a tiny echo chamber and no one cares or knows about its existence.
