I was interested in pf2 for about a year now, but only got into it after the ogl thing. Now I honestly am baffled how 5e maneged to be so popular when 4e, pf1, and pf2 are all so much better than it as tttrpgs, and that only sticking to fantasy.
Well if we’re talking about something more than just more options in a selector, then it can be as complicated as dev wants it to be. A separate 3d model or some adjustments to an existing one if you select a trans option in character creator would not be that hard. But it’s still time and effort of programmers and modellers and we know how much studios like to overwork and underpay them. I guess my point wasn’t that it’s too hard, but rather that it’s too hard to be deemed important by the money people.
Personally I think there can be actually artistic value in this. Character customisation can be a way to worldbuild before the game even started. BG3 is fantasy, so maybe there is magic or rituals used by trans people to get the bodies they want. Maybe the rituals leave a mark, so a trans fem would have scars from that ritual. What if some trans people got there by making deals with fey so a trans masc might have a chest they traded from a fey prince.
Or imagine if cyberpunk2077 was actually good and had done something with this. Transhumanism is a big thing in cyberpunk genre, and there is already borgware in the ttrpg, why not make nsfw borgware? If I can replace all my limbs with katanas I can make THAT katana cybernetic too.
I originally thought it was about deeper levels of customization that more realistiaclly portrayed trans bodies, which would be imo complicated. But you are absolutely right that just another variant of already existing selection would be reletively trivial.
So, I haven’t played BG3, but considering that it’s a fantasy setting, I am surprised that it seems to be same as irl for trans stuff. Compared to the pathfinder universe which had since the 1st edition magical hrt potions and salves which work way better than irl as well as straight up insta-transition magic items in 2e, DnD seems kinda boring.
If I understand you correctly, what you’re suggesting would require programming in an entire system for trans bodies, a bunch more 3d models to make and to integrate into that system, as well as many small changes all over the rest of the game to make it all work.
Don’t get me wrong, I think that would be amazing and I too would like to see it, I don’t think it’s gonna be worth the investment for AAA games made for profit. Hell, I haven’t seen a system like that in explicitly adult games, and games like that would actually use that system.
That looks very interesting! Thank you!
From a cursory glance the spell system looks like close to what I’m looking for. Thank you for the suggestion!
I think part of the problem last time was that some of my mods were nexus and some were steam 😃 I guess I’m reinstalling Skyrim then. Thank you for the link!
I’ve played Noita. It’s fun but not exactly what I’m looking for.
Divinity isn’t a magic game I’m looking for, but it is an RPG I want to play at some point, I’ve only heard good things about it.
With Psychonauts, I’ve heard of it as a cult classic that every True Gamer™ has to play, but I’m not really into platformers.
AFAIK Witcher’s combat isn’t really about magic, it’s an RPG with some magical abilities that help you win swordfights, which is not what I want to play at the moment. It’s a maybe, but I think there are better fits.
Legend of Grimrock 2 looks very interesting, it looks like the RPGs that were made before I was born and I wanted to play one for a while. A game in that style that can run on modern PC? Sign me up!
I have conflicted feelings about Persona. I’ve never played one, I haven’t even seen the gameplay. From what I know of the gameplay it’s unique and interesting to me. Visual style looks cool. But I also know that some of the story and character decisions made by the devs are really weird even by Japan weirdness standards, and very weird to me personally. Considering that the story and characters are the main part of that game, I would rather wait for the next one, and hopefully they’ll stop doing that weird stuff and fix it.
I’m playing both Prey and Dishonored 2 right now. I really like them both, which makes me think that the game I want is an immersive sim with extensive magic system. Given that an immersive sim is a rare genre, I don’t think a game like that exists. Still, thank you for all your suggestions.
I wanted to avoid mods for now especially with skyrim since last time I’ve tried I’ve spent like 3 hours straight on nexusmods, only to run into conflicts and be too tired to even attempt to fix them. Although with a total conversion I assume it’s all-in-one which should help avoid that problem. Thank you, will check it out!
Thanks for reminding me about specs, I’ll add them to the post. Though I assume that it’s mostly on Hogwarts being unoptimised, because my laptop can play Cyberpunk2077 and X-4 foundations well enough. It’s 8gb ram; Ryzen5 3550h so the processor is only 3 years old. I guess 4g VRAM isn’t enough for the physics sim of MC’s clothes (seriously why is it enabled even on lowest settings).
In a game I want decent magical combat. I want to have magical attacks that have varied effects and counters. Something that makes you think which spell to use and when. I guess the most important part for me is counters. So for example, if the enemy has a magical shield, you have to somehow deal with it first, you can’t just spam click your best spell.
Looks interesting. Thanks for the recommendation!
I’ve seen it on steam, and while it’s combat is kinda what I’m looking for, the top-down perspective and more arcade-like gameplay aren’t what I want to play right now. Still, thank you!
I’ve played Bioshock 3 a long time ago and while fun, it isn’t what I’m looking for in terms of magic. I’ve heard 1 and 2 are a bit more deep in this regard but afaik it’s still mainly a shooter. I’m currently playing Dishonored 2 and Bioshock seems more similar to that than to Hogwarts.
Control was something I’ve wanted to play for a while, mostly because of SCP-inspired story, I didn’t know anything about it’s gameplay. Will 100% check it out.
Currently Noita is my magic game and Hogwarts was in part attempt for variety. I’ve seen Magicka on steam and I dunno why, but it didn’t click for me.
Anyway, thank you very much for the recommendations!
The hottest June so far.
To be fair, whether a name is considered fem/masc/gn is so arbitary, the same name can be fem to one person and masc to another, even in the same country. So I doubt that non-autistic people have an easier time with it, they’ll probably just assume their own opinion is the prevalent one lol.
You probably played it already, but if you didn’t, Portal 2 has a Co-op campaign and it’s really good.
Edit: I opened my steam library for more games and and saw that apparently an unofficial mod Portal reloaded had a co-op update if you already played the original. Anyway here’s some more games.
Battleblock theater: a co-op puzzle platformer. It has a bit of a party game vibe with it’s humour and ability to mess with your friends, but it has a story.
Don’t starve together: a 2d survival game with an interesting drawn style.
FEAR 3: a horror FPS.
Payday 2: a co-op FPS where you rob banks (and other places).
A lot of people have been calling them that for a while though. In my memory Bush admin was called fascistic by leftists, I’m sure vietnam war was similar and so on, so I disagree about it being long over due.
I think a bigger point should be that a majority of people for a long time didn’t even know what fascism is beyond “bad
peoplegermans that hated jews”. I think after Charlottesville it got a bit better, but still not good enough. And because of that just calling them fascist will not work on people who don’t already agree with us.
