    I think that was the point. It also shows how dangerous the ring is, that it could corrupt a good person so easily.

      yeah actually, it took me a long time to become mature enough to recognize that he was NOT always a treacherous asshole, but that the mere presence of the ring existing in his proximity had ravaged him to the depths of his soul… He had been a truly noble and forthright man, through and through, until the ring began to poison his mind… And it absolutely would have done that to anyone. ANYONE. Even a hobbit… but at least the shire folk possessed some level of resistance to the point that under its influence Frodo only lost the will to proceed in the final stretch. And not even just any hobbit. Not even Sam…

      “I can’t carry it for you… But I can carry you!”

      And even in the very last moment, Frodo could not bring himself to drop the ring. It was only through the greed of gollum that it was pried away…
