A couple weeks ago, I deleted social media off my phone. Insta and reddit was all that was left, but I noticed how much of a useless time sink they were becoming. My daily mood has also improved.
Now, I’ve been reading manga and playing chess online to fill the gap. But I’m still looking for suggestions on what else there is to do besides doom scroll. It’s not like I’m outlawing the internet entirely, I still have interests and hobbies etc, but I’m open to just about anything.
Well it’s not like I really need to justify anything lol, but my screen time already was damn near nothing to begin with. Once social media left, it’s even less.
However switching to reading manga has been a great way to unwind and enjoy reading fiction again. I actually prefer reading manga digitally only because the contrast of black and white is so much higher and easier to see details in the art.
In terms of “the internet” as a whole, I’ve found restricting it to just on my desktop has been really beneficial and healthy for me. I really only turn my PC on 1-3 times a week. The internet used to be a place you could go to when you got home from the real world. Now it’s in everyone’s pockets 24/7 and so centralized to the big social media networks
Saying that nobody should sit on their phone and do nothing for short periods of time again is unrealistic. It’s the endless scrolling / tiktok short video format that can be a real problem for people
