Eh, the same could probably be said of RuneScape but they tried revolutionizing the game and it alienated enough people that as a reaction they started a second game using old code from years before the update that split the community.
Now there’s RuneScape 3 and Old School RuneScape… and Old School has the larger community.
There can’t be a Minecraft 2. That is just Minecraft today. Each update builds on the last. A second version of the game would be redundant.
