The argument against abortion is that it stops the next Jesus coming. Since Mary was a virgin why don’t we just ban abortions for Virgins. It seems like a fair compromise.

Is that really the argument against abortion though? I hear more about how every life is precious and it’s murder than anything about the second coming. And even that is just a thinly veiled cover for wanting to feel superior and slutshame others

If life is so precious, you’d think they’d try to help the homeless and poor in the present first instead of who’s to come (or may not come) in the future.

And the rule only applies to other men’s women, never their women. Their women can do whatever they want. Law doesn’t exist for them. It’s just another way to control the well being of subordinate people. You have to suffer, they don’t. How they like power over other humans…it’s amazing.

No it’s not the argument. @philluminati was making a sarcastic remark.

Anti-abortionists say they believe that every child deserves a chance, but when it comes down to voting for initiatives that provide support for the child after it’s born, they say “fuck no; get a job” every time. They never stop to think that not all people are fit to be parents. They never consider the fact that sometimes it’s better to terminate a pregnancy than to let the kid live a life of suffering.

There’s a lot of bullshit in genesis to make fun of, but this is the least weird.

it’s implied in the bible that Adam and eve had heaps of kids.

Yup, women just aren’t mentioned because the author probably didn’t believe they matter.

He wasn’t wrong for though. His assessment retained validity for the the following millenia.

This comment is technically correct, people stuck with this ideology for quite a while after the Bible was written

Wow at the time of commenting this, over twenty people got upset because you pointed out women were regarded less important than men for centuries.

Also, before God made Eve, He made Lilith, who was Adams first wife and unacceptably feminist. (It’s alluded to in Genesis when on the sixth date he created humans, man AND woman—traditionally Lilith). It’s said that the other peoples besides the Jewish claim descent from Lilith, along with a bunch of demons.

Lilith got turned out and God had to make someone more tractable for Adam (Eve). But that’s how there were others for them to mingle with.

Or it is because Genesis is copy pasted together from two slightly different original sources. One where man and woman were created on the same day and one where Eve was created after Adam.

This sounds like the Bible is just clobbered together from other cultures beliefs by a ChatGPT… and I kinda wonder how that’d work out now.

The two main sources of the bible are known as E and J. The Elohist and the Jahwist. The Elohist named so because in text believed to come from this school god is referred to as El or the plural Elohim(like a royal plural). In the Jahwist source god is referred to as Yahweh.

Both El and Yahweh were gods in the Canaanite pantheon.

It was. Noah’s ark, for example, was cribbed from the Epic of Gilgamesh.
