And Bobby knew this shit like 20 years ago. It regularly gets into the low 100s in July and August in that region. It’s not so terribly bad since it’s dry heat, especially when there is wind. Arizona isn’t even the highest risk area. The biggest issue in the US wet-bulb temps in the southeast.
The biggest issue in the US is wet-bulb temps in the southeast.
For people that aren’t aware, wetbulb temps essentially measure how well you can cool yourself down by sweating. Humid air means sweating is less effective since it can’t evaporate.
A wetbulb temp of 95°F (35°C) will kill someone in less than a workday if they’re not given proper breaks.
A wet bulb temp of 35°C will kill a healthy person sitting still in front of a fan.
Yeah, any wetbulb above 30°C (86 °F) is potentially fatal without lots of rest breaks and water and shade and such. 35°C is unsurvivable - and not something that happens naturally on Earth.
Yet.

Wow, that is so cool!
It regularly gets into the low 100s
What’s that in real temperature units?
37.8C is 100F
Good bot
Americans when faced with a Celsius measurement in the EU: “Oh, 32°C, that’s about 90 degrees.”
EU people when faced with Fahrenheit in an arricle about a place in the US: “Reeeeee, why isn’t this in my own comfortable units that I like‽‽”
Look, guys, we need an entire generation to finally die before we can fix a lot of things here in the US. We’ve got larger problems than imperial or metric units right now. We’re working on it, amd your petulant whining about units makes you look silly to a country of people who are used to converting between the two.
Canadian, not EU, and it was a tongue-in-cheek jibe at your country which yes, has very many problems beyond not using the metric system.
Simmer down.
My comment wasn’t tongue in cheek? Because it was. You simmer down, lol.
If you are discussing the affects of temperature on humans, you should use a human centric temperature scale, so I’d say that is already the appropriate unit.
Lol

Meanwhile, border patrol is rounding people up into pens and forcing them to stand shoulder to shoulder under a single tiny tarp for shade.
Dang it Bobby! That means we’ll boil to death before burnin to death first!
On the plus side Phoenix is going to be an absolute boon to future archaeologists. It’s in the middle of a desert, which is great for preserving stuff, and when it depopulates nobody’s going to move back in and wreck stuff up by living there.
Dubai’s probably going to be another good one, though it’s on a coast so that could cause other types of degradation.
Dang it Bobby!
“4.5 million residents are living in hell”
I thought the population of the United States was much more than 4.5 million. Oh well, live and learn.
Not all of the US is hell; I hear the future New California Republic (once they balkanize, expect it within our lifetimes) is nice.
Yeah, but then they’ll be back in the Mojave trying to take Hoover dam.
And the Mojave? Whew… Thats enough to make anyone wish for a nuclear winter.
There is no chance of balkinzation or secession of California unless the entire USA falls or splits. CA is the 5th largest economy in the world. That amount of wealth would never be allowed to leave. It’d make the entire South seceding look like a trial run.
Not that they’d really try without a dissolution of the Constitution first. They’d probably just start passing laws that ignore the Constitution and federal laws and then dare the fed to intervene. Would still need a massively weaker fed, though.
unless the entire USA falls or splits
That would be what balkanization means.
I agree that they’d never be allowed to seceed, and I don’t think they’d ever try. But America is a burning building; eventually it will collapse
People keep saying this. They’ve been saying this for decades. Other countries keep having bigger problems first, I think it’s just because you see all of America’s dirty laundry while virtually all other countries governments take more steps to control the flow of information.
You had a failed right-wing insurrection a few years ago, and the man they wanted to put in charge still isn’t behind bars. America is fucked
🤞
Good luck with your no water.
You realize California is on the ocean, right? Desalination is a solvable engineering problem, and one that becomes more viable the worse things get. Especially if they’re no longer b holden to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission
Desalination can provide drinking water, but you aren’t going to irrigate crops with desalination.
I googled it and it looks like ~80% of their water comes from within the state, and the rest mostly comes from Colorado, and I guess those guys wouldn’t object to a water deal even in case of secession. Not sure if secession is even possible in US though.
I’d be much happier selling our water to California than to the Saudis growing alfalfa in the desert.
I’m sorry, I don’t understand this. What does this mean?

Ah, thank you
DAE AMERICA BAD?!?!?!
I chuckled.
I’m so smart because I can see flaws with my country. So much better than all those normies.
Its 111 in south florida at 9am. It’s been that way for weeks.
It ain’t just the shitty desert.
I was just thinking the funniest thing about being alive rn is that we allowed the people who work inside to determine what happens to the outside.
Yeah, but we gave up on Florida a long time ago.
Phoenician pro-tip: crack your car windows to avoid getting into a broiling oven after work.
Also leave a tray of baked goods on the dash so when you return you can enjoy a nice freshly baked muffin.
Though make sure that any children you leave in the car are securely strapped in so they can’t get at the muffin and eat it before you return.
Also, front window reflector shields that you put up when your car is parked make a massize difference
I don’t live anywhere near AZ, but I bought Window Visors/Rain Guards/Vent Shades for my truck so I can leave the windows cracked open all the time. There are also solar powered vent fans you can put in your window but that seems like overkill to me.
I’ve read a lot of reviews for solar powered window vent fans for cars and all the ones I came across had a ton of “this is cheap crap, don’t buy it” feedback. I’m interested in buying one (overkill is the best kind of kill) but it’s made me very uncertain.
I was also thinking of making my own, there are solar powered chicken coop ventilation systems that look reliable (since expensive chickens would die if they weren’t I trust the quality a bit more) and I can 3D print the over-the-window ducting. In case the overkill isn’t over enough.
I went and bought one of those for my dark colored vehicle, today is the first day I’m using it. I remember it helping on another vehicle I used to have, but that one also had tinted windows.
I’ve found that leaving a few windows cracked is more effective than the shades, but doing both certainly can’t hurt.
Except that I get rain where I live, so leaving windows cracked can be a bit of a gamble sometimes and I have to stay alert.
I used to have these little visor things that covered the top few inches of the side windows, that helped a lot because I live somewhere where it can suddenly rain.
You know, I’ve seen those on cars occasionally but it never actually twigged until now what they were for. I’m one of today’s lucky ten thousand. I’m going to see if I can find a set of those.
It’s easier to find them the more common the vehicle is.
Window Visors/Rain Guards/Vent Shades can mostly solve the rain problem.
Phoenician pro-tip: if you use a letter for each individual sound instead of one for every word, it makes for a more efficient writing system. Also DO NOT fuck with the Romans or random weirdo desert tribes they will murder you without mercy.
The real pro tip is to leave the state. Cracking a window lol
The real solution to climate change is to crack a window
Still better than Michigan winters
What winters? It barely gets below 32F/0C in Detroit anymore. This is actually quite problematic bc we need at least two solid weeks straight of below freezing temperatures to kill invasive bugs and we are no longer getting that.
Secondary pro tip, some cars (honda for sure) you can triple press the unlock button then hold it and all the windows will go down. So even if you forget to leave them cracked you can use this while you are close to your car to quickly vent the heat. Will open the sunroof too if you have one!
It works on key turns for Honda.
Great way to get your car broken into, just sayin.
If someone wants to break into your car, they’ll see something inside and then attempt to break in. That, or if they know anything, theyll just smash your window, check your trunk through the seat, and leave.
Leaving your window cracked probably doesnt increase your likelihood of getting your car broken into, especially if you dont leave anything valuable in the car.
Either way, leaving things like backpacks, large cases, really anything at all valuable looking anywhere in your car is the greatest way to get your car broken into.
There are places where people literally leave the window open or door unlocked so people looking to steal shit can take a look without breaking the window, see they have nothing to steal and move on.
113F?
I was in vegas last week. It was 118F every single day.
Also, you should try Oklahoma, where its 105-110F, with 45% humidity. Then, you know suffering!
Well that’s all just absolutely horrifying. Sincerely, A Canadian.
Don’t speak too loudly, if it keeps getting hotter, I might have to move to Canada!
How’s the fire looking?
Which one
I was in Germany last year, it was a lovely 75°F, but so humid I was miserable any time I stepped outdoors, and any time I took any public transport I was just sitting in my own swamp.
I live in Phoenix. This article is blowing life out here way out of proportion.
There’s very little humidity here, so the weather doesn’t choke you. Yeah, we drink a little more water in the summer time, but most Americans drink way less water than they should be anyway. So, what, we’re more hydrated than most of America’s population?
Our streets aren’t walkable really, even in the winter months. Everything has been built too far apart, so we just drive more. The most walkable areas are downtown and ASU, and even there, in the winter, I do as little walking as possible cause everything is so spread out.
I moved here in August from Southern CA, near the beach where the weather is mild. My lips didn’t crack as I drove in, and they haven’t cracked since. My phone has never had trouble charging due to heat.
You are speaking as someone who is home, transportation, and water secure. Someone with a marginally less stable life could have a difficult time staying alive. Heck, your AC going out on a weekend could drastically reduce your own quality of life in totally new ways during this heat.
You are speaking as someone who is home, transportation, and water secure. Someone with a marginally less stable life
Exactly. I’m in Arizona right now and it’s incredibly hot with no break from the heat. Equipment overheating is a real issue, my development computers and phones have all had problems.
Hate to break it to you, but most people in Phoenix is home, transport and water secure. Yup, the power going out would suck, but not death-suck for most people.
This article literally claims that all 4.95 million people living in the greater Phoenix area is living in hell. That’s ridiculous. It’s not even close to being true.
The heat is the same issue that places like suburban Minnesota has in the winter. The only difference here is that the problem is the heat instead of the cold.

I went through this too as im also in the desert (not arizona)…110s arent too bad if its temporary…now on my second week, but its suppose to go down to the 100s this week so at least my ac will feel like its working…
jesus
He ain’t gon’ save ya.
