I’m searching around for a lemmy client to that has the option to hide downvotes altogether.

I don’t mind if downvotes are still counted on the instance side, i just don’t care.

Hold on, so if a piece of trolling got 1 upvote (from the poster) and 20 downvotes you want it to look and rank like a new 1/0 comment?

I assume so from what they’ve said in this thread. Normally I’d say someone just needs to develop thicker skin but a lot of lemmings are perpetually online so I wish JoYo Peace, Pussy (or dick), and the soft touch of grass on a spring meadow morning.

Seriously though if you can’t handle your opinions having downvotes, practice makes perfect. You shouldn’t shelter yourself from downvotes JoYo, just embrace them and realize you don’t need to prove your ideas to anyone but yourself. Look at my comment history, it’s a mix of +5-50 and -5-50 (tbh mostly 0s and 1s). People will disagree with you in life, and the answer is not to go on the attack. Take the criticism and accept it or don’t, and move on. But if you’re getting constant downvotes, always, then there’s a reason for it - probably the thing you’re obsessed with and keep posting about. If you constantly post about MAGA saving us and the second coming here on Lemmy, you’re gonna have a bad time.

Edit: their downvote ratio isn’t even bad.

Oh JoYo, my sweet summer adult… conversation and finding common ground is what builds relationships.

Sorry for the long comment I was just saying what I gadda say in the first.

wefwef only shows totals, if that’s what you’re looking for.

If you truly only want to see the effect of upvotes (including on comment ordering), I’m not sure where to go for that.

    Maybe facebook?

Boost doesn’t even have the option to show up/down votes separately, just the sum.

In the day i’ve been using Mlem to hide downvotes it has made my experience much more pleasant, especially in this thread.

If people want to make their displeasure known to me they can reply.

A little late to the game, but I just started using Voyager a few days ago and that is the default behavior :)

I think Lemmy should do something new, enforce creating a comment when downvoting.

      Let’s try it… No.

It’s just going to turn into a spam fest.

What I like about downvotes is they let what’s controversial be shown as controversial and similarly what’s just an unwelcome idea be shown as such.

Yes but often people just downvote stuff without saying anything to it. If they would put a comment there, it would at least be clear that they didnt read past the first line

if i dislike something, I don’t always want to have to explain myself. sometimes i just dislike something and want to show it by a simple click. specially on mobile I don’t want to write a comment each time. otherwise i would just stop voting completely instead of writing a comment each time i downvote something.

Sometimes others have already made a comment explaining your exact opinion of what you just downvoted, so instead of spamming more comments you can downvote one and upvote the other which explains your opinion.

So if it doesn’t get an explanation to you specifically, it’s “superficial”. The entitlement on some of y’all; gyatt…

I think that’s a better consequence than the alternative, which is that people stop downvoting spam because they’re tired of writing out “this is spam”, “this is unrelated”, “this is racist”, et cetera.

Most likely scenario is that the people who continue to downvote just comment a single letter or something to make their downvote count.

Skill issue; if you want to be engaged with, make an engagement-worthy comment rather than something a person with actually-functional lobes would eyeroll, downvote, and scroll past.
