I must confess to getting a little sick of seeing the endless stream of articles about this (along with the season finale of Succession and the debt ceiling), but what do you folks think? Is this something we should all be worrying about, or is it overblown?

I think there are many things that are more likely to post an existential threat to humanity (ex, climate change, nuclear conflict) before AI becomes anywhere close to that. It could potentially be economically disruptive, but the hype is overblown.

If you write copy or draw commissions for a living, you might have something to worry about, but, taking a step back, all the AI art and writings I’ve seen have been pretty derivative even if they’re impressive on a technical level.
