Absolutely, but calling it a reference implies that it was intentional by the writer, which seems unlikely considering what he’s said about such things.

Not everything needs to have deep/real-world meaning. As i recall, Tolkien really didn’t like people ascribing such things to his writing. They’re just stories and should be treated as such.
That’s a fair point, i can absolutely see Gandalf the Grey justifying with something like “there is more evil in this world than just Sauron”.
Just not in any other ways, like it going against essentially his entire character and the ring not allowing it, among others.
Gandalf wouldn’t even still be there, since he was only there to aid in the fight against Sauron. He’d have gone off to Valinor shortly after Sauron’s defeat, together with the rest of the elves. And there’d be no Aragorn to be a good pal and extend the good lifespans of the realms of Men, so Gondor would never get a new king and the realms of Men would likely fall to evil a bit into the third age.
Rules are rules ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Well, you seem to be more certain about this than i have been about anything, ever. Really no point to argue anything at that point.
“Listen to” and “obey” are two very different concepts, not sure where you got that I’m suggesting they do what he wants.
No, because I’m not. This was what i experienced when i first came to lemmy a bit over a year ago (i think? It was when reddit made their api paid). Things may have changed since, i wouldn’t know since i blocked the instance after i was sure of what was going on after like a month.
That’s fair, let’s just agree to disagree.
I mean, he is in control of the soon to be president of the US. Much as I hate it, other countries kinda do have to listen to him now.
This was like a ago and i have had the instance blocked since, so that would be difficult. Just know that there are reasons most of lemmy hates hexbear, this not least of them. Anyways, i think we’re done here, have a nice day.
I’m sorry but no, that is not at all what hexbear people have tried to tell me. They have repeatedly said that no one died in the event at all, with no distinction made about it happening on the square or not. I’m glad that doesn’t seem to be what you think, but i also don’t appreciate being told what I’ve experienced. This has happened several times and not once have they expressed the nuance you have here.
Just saw a post about food positioning inside of a microwave, and immendiately see a post made by MicroWave themselves. Coincidence? I think not!
And yet many, and i mean many, on hexbear and ml keep spouting shit about no one being killed and you’re a western capitalist pig for even suggesting they were.
Not when it’s factually incorrect. There’s plenty of things wrong with America, no need to call it something it isn’t.
The twilight movie series. I’ve watched the entire thing at least 3 times, still love it. Meme scenes aside, they’re actually quite nice
Not that i engage in this particular variety myself, but this kind of activity typically gets more fun the deeper you dive in. I generally only watch esports, but the more i care about the outcome of a game, and the more i understand of the game, the more fun it is to watch. I can think of no better way of caring more about a game than siding absolutely with one of the teams and betting money on their victory.
Ooh a double reference, fancy!
